1 BAS Field Trip to Twin Falls - Click for more info BAS Members, >>>IMPORTANT NOTICE<<< The BAS Board has changed the October membership meeting on Friday, Oct. 10 to a Field Trip on Saturday, Oct. 11 to Twin Falls to visit the Faulkner Planetarium and the 24” Herrett Telescope Observatory, at the Herrett Center at the College of Southern Idaho. If you wish to attend, you must email me privately at mrvolvo@cableone.net by 8:00 pm Friday, Oct. 10 so I can organize the carpool. If I don’t hear from you, I’ll assume you won’t be going. Please refer to the schedule below for detailed information. Field Trip Schedule: The meeting date will be switched from Friday, October 10th to Saturday, October 11th. (There will be no meeting at DCI in October.) 2:15 pm: Meet at BRETZ RV parking lot, in order to load up carpool cars and leave for Twin Falls by 2:30 pm. BRETZ RV has given us permission to park our cars in their lot until our return. BRETZ RV is located at Broadway/I-84, at the SW corner, directly across the street from the TA Truckstop. Do not park in the truckstop lot or your car will be towed. 5:00 pm: Arrive in Twin Falls, meet at the Herrett Center parking lot, on N. College Rd., 3 blocks West of Blue Lakes Blvd. Here we can divide up and head out to dinner at any of several local restaurants. 6:45 pm: Arrive back at the Herrett Center to attend the 7:00 pm Planetarium program, “Dynamic Earth - Exploring Earth’s Climate Engine” (24 min). View trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnSmFC-JgvQ This program will likely be followed by a traditional planetarium star presentation. 8:00 pm: Planetarium program ends and telescope observing begins at the 24” Herrett Telescope. The telescope observatory closes at midnight. 12-midnight (approx.): Carpool back to Boise, arriving at BRETZ RV to pick up parked vehicles. Notes: BAS will pay Planetarium program admission fee for all attending BAS members. Admission to the 24” Herrett Telescope is free. Attendees are responsible for their own dinner expenses. Attendees are responsible for fuel expenses, as worked out between individual drivers and passengers. Planetarium program is as currently advertised but could change without notice. Both the planetarium and telescope will be open to the general public. Scheduling a private BAS event at the Herrett Center was cost-prohibitive. ★ If you plan on attending this BAS Field Trip, please email me privately, not on BAS1. I need to know if you want to be a driver or a passenger, so I can make sure we have enough room for everyone that wants to go. I plan on driving, I already have one passenger and room for two more. If you have any questions, please ask. Randy Holst VP, BAS
