Welcome!

Greetings and welcome to BAS. There are many ways to get involved in BAS activities. On top of our monthly membeship meetings, we have two scheduled star parties each month (weather permitting of course). On occasion there is also a need for BAS volunteers for star parties at schools, churches, and other similar events. To be informed of these events please join the BAS1 yahoo group. Instructions on how to get here will be provided below. This yahoo group is also how most of the members communicate to each other for impromptu star parties, questions. and interesting tid bits found on the internet.

What's Next?

  1. Attend meetings
  2. Go to a star party. See the club calander for the schedule
  3. Ask questions on BAS1 and our Facebook page
  4. Join the facebook page
  5. Join the Groups.io page
  6. As a part of the membership you will be receiving the Reflector Magazine. Members also have the opportunity to receive astronomy magazine. Please email or speak with the treasurer for more information.

There are many applications and websites that can help out. Stellarium is a open source program for all computers. It is a digital skychart great for learning the sky. Click here to go to their page.

There are may smart phoen apps that have the same function as stellarium as well as many other computer programs.

Clear Sky Chart is a weather forecasting system that predicts cloud cover, temperature, with, and many other things that help with determining sky conditions. There are many locations that are observed, all it takes is a city in the search bar. Click here to go to their page. There is a apple and android app for this website (Android: clear sky droid; Apple: clear sky chart viewer).
